One of the hardest things to keep up with is nutrition. Lets be honest we have all went through times, or are currently going through them, when we did not keep up with the proper intake of fruits and veggies. Sometimes people go weeks without having any fresh fruits or veggies at all. With many of us eating fast food as our standard diet we have to find a way to get these fresh items into our diet. It’s not only a necessity but it’s medically needed in the long run. Humans need these micro and macro nutrients to keep us properly fed from nature, not the overly processed items we are constantly taking in.
We have to figure out how to trick ourselves into eating these items. So here are some tips and tricks to slipping some of these items back into your life:
Hide and Go Seek
Most of us love potatoes, I know I do! Prepare a delicious dish of mashed potatoes but at the last minute just mix in a TON of shredded cauliflower into your recipe. You’ll be surprised at how fast your dinner guests will empty the bowl. It really is a great way to sneak some veggies into an everyday dish.
Artsy Fun for Kids
One of the toughest culprits in the fruits and veggies game are kids. With all of the candy, sodas, and high stimulation foods blowing up our kids brains you have to fight back with fun and excitement revolving around good food. This is the only way we are going to teach them how to eat right. I like to get my son involved in the slicing, dicing, and chopping so that he can then make cool designs with his food.. So yeah, let them play with their food!
Stuff Things In Them
One of the most fun things to do, and yummy, is to make some of your favorite foods and then stuff them into veggies. It’s quick, simple, fun, and it never gets old.
Be Experimental
Why not have a little fun? Sometimes you have to jump in the kitchen and just play. As adults it’s fun to just grab some things and see what you can do. This playfulness may lead to a new recipe that you fall in love with. I personally found a new recipe while experimenting the kitchen with my friend Rob. We tried to make something that looked like sushi, but vegan. This is what we came up with. Cucumbers and couscous, so simple, fresh, but yet delicious.
